December 6, 2025 - *** CANCELLED *** Butch Hancock (7:00 PM)

Butch Hancock Butch Hancock

We have had many incredible concerts at Sycamore Creek over the years. One of the stand outs was definitely Butch Hancock and his son Rory in 2015. Butch showed up for the concert after a long drive from Terlingua and played an incredible concert to a packed house, then came back the next day and did it again. I first saw him in Lubbock. I was in college there and Butch and his musical buddies lived a few blocks from me. Those buddies were the Flatlanders and they played an excellent house concert to a handful of people some time around 1973. They were already playing the Armadillo World Headquarters to large crowds by that time, but Lubbock was always a bit behind. I have taken every opportunity to see him perform and he NEVER disappoints. So 10 years after his first appearance at Sycamore Creek, he is coming back.

You can google Butch and enjoy some of his music. His songs that stand out for me are: West Texas Waltz, If You Were a Bluebird and Dry Land Farm, but there are many many more as he is a prolific songwriter, as well as an artist and a river guide. Oh, and he is also in the iconic movie “Lubbock Lights” where Butch’s buddy Tommy Hancock coined the phrase: “Lubbock, it is a great place to live, but you wouldn’t want to visit there.”

I could go and and on about Butch, but enough of my gibberish. Sign up QUICK. We have absolutely no doubt that this concert will sell out, and fast.

Invitations were sent out on November 5, 2025, the show has a waiting list.

The suggested minimum donation will be $30/person.

November 8, 2025 - Kerrville Folk Festival Grassy Hill New Folk Winners Concert

Many people consider the Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Competition to be the soul of the Kerrville Folk Festival. Every year since 1972, songwriters have been invited to submit two songs to be considered for this prestigious competition. From the 1,200 submissions in 2025, 24 artists were invited to come to the Kerrville Folk Festival and perform their songs before an adoring and enthusiastic audience. A panel of professional touring singer songwriters selected six “award winners” from the 24. Those six award winners were invited to participate in a tour of central Texas. Sycamore Creek will be the first concert of an 8 concert tour. 4 of the award winners will perform at Sycamore, and the other 2 award winners will join the tour later in the week.

Click on the links to their websites for bios and to hear a sample of their music.

Sara Beth Go, Nashville, TN
Sara Beth Go started out in New Orleans as a blissfully awkward 13-year-old girl playing an out-of-tune, dark brown, upright piano, at age 18 she moved to Nashville. Welcome to Sara Beth’s Neighborhood of Noise, 2nd Edition. It's strong and shimmery, clunky and uncomfortable, heartbreaking and hopeful, mental and, like a 13 year old, funny as hell. https://www.sarabethgo.com/

Cindy Kalmenson, OJAI, CA
Cindy Kalmenson is on a roll she has won numerous songriting competitions before becoming an award winner in the Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Songwriters Competition. FolkWax sums it up: “As a singer, Kalmenson has a gift for storytelling and phrasing well suited to the stories she writes. She sings in a light yet powerful soprano that reminds a bit of FolkWax favorite and artist of the year Gretchen Peters.”FolkWax. https://cindystylemusic.com/

October 4, 2025 - Kimmie Rhodes

Kimmie Rhodes

What better way to start our 21st season of music than with a music legend - Kimmie Rhodes.

The Austin Chronicle calls Kimmie Rhodes a “prolific figure in Texas Music.” The Austin-based singer-songwriter has released 19 solo albums; written and produced three musical plays; published a novella/cookbook and a memoir. She blends these unique skills and captivates audiences on stages around the world, and in intimate group settings. A native Texan, she was raised in Lubbock, where she cultivated the spirited mix of talent and determination that still fuels her success. Kimmie was inducted into The West Texas Walk of Fame for her "outstanding contributions in the field of art music and entertainment" on September 28, 2023.

A “songwriter’s songwriter” truly describes Kimmie, as is evidenced by people who have sought her out to co-write with her and recorded her songs. She has written many multi-platinum songs, recorded by such stellar artists as Willie Nelson, Wynonna Judd, Trisha Yearwood, Amy Grant, CeCe Winans, Joe Ely, Waylon Jennings, Peter Frampton, Mark Knopfler, Emmylou Harris, and others.

Waylon said, “When I hear Kimmie sing it makes me know what the phrase ‘pulling on your heart strings’ means.” Kimmie co-wrote “Lines,” with Waylon for his Justice release, Right for The Time. At her own Sunbird Studios, Rhodes has hosted some of the Austin’s finest singer-songwriters to film a segment of Bob Harris' iconic Back To series for WBBC-TV.

Today, Kimmie continues to make her home in the Texas hill country outside of Austin and is currently working on another book, “Eat or Die,” which, in her signature humorous style, offers gourmet reminiscences and recipes gleaned from her intrepid life as a touring artist and all around “foodie.”

Kimmie spends several months each year in her second home in the South of France, writing and performing – and making plans for “what happens next.”

Kimmie is currently serving the Austin music community as a board member for HOME (Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers) in order to help raise funds and awareness to ensure that Austin's elderly musician veterans have secure housing. She hosts a yearly fundraising series “Kimmie & Friends Play For HOME” that is hosted by premier acoustic music venue of Austin, The Saxon Pub.

Reservations can be made for one person or two people. Any request for reservations for 3 or more people will be rejected. The suggested minimum donation will be $30/person.
